Cory and Tredegar have pledged their financial support to a trio of talented young Welsh players who will represent the nation in Montreux later this year as part of the European Youth Brass Band.

Help

The duo, who between them have represented Wales at every European Championship event since 2001, have joined together to give £500 towards the expenses of tuba player Josh Worman and cornetists Owain Llestyn and Ffion Morris, who will head to Switzerland in April to join 35 other players from across Europe under the baton of Swiss conductor Veronique Gyger.

All three have been members of the 2018 National Youth Brass Band of Wales, run by the National Youth Arts Wales organisation, who told 4BR that they were delighted that they would enjoy such an 'enriching musical experience'.

Josh is currently studying at the University of Bristol and has played for the Abergavenny Band, whilst Owain, who plays with the Fairey Band, is currently studying at Ysgol Tryfan in Bangor. Ffion who plays with City of Cardiff (Melingriffith) is currently studying at the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama.

Proud history

In a joint statement the band's told 4BR: "Wales has a proud history of continuous support for the European Championships since its inception, and so we are delighted to be able to help these talented youngsters in a practical way.

Both Cory and Tredegar have also proudly represented Wales at the event on numerous occasions, whilst a host of young players from all parts of the nation have benefitted hugely from playing in the European Youth Band since 2006.

Attending these events is very expensive, but we felt it was vitally important that we help them enjoy a musical experience that will live with them for a very long time."

Fantastic news

In response to the news Welsh EBBA representative, Graham Howe told 4BR: "It's fantastic news that Cory and Tredegar are supporting the players in this way.

Wales is proud to play its part in the promotion of brass band music throughout Europe and this is a great boost to three young payers who will enjoy what promises to be a fantastic time in Switzerland."
