Bangor set for student band invasion

All students eyes will be on Bangor University this weekend for the 2019 UniBrass Championships.

  There will be a warm Welsh welcome at Bangor University this weekend

University and Conservatoire bands from around the country are putting together the final preparations on their programmes to be performed at the 2019 UniBrass Championships, which will be held at Bangor University on Saturday 2nd February.

It will be the first time that the event has been hosted in Wales, and is being organised by the students and alumni of Bangor University supported by the UniBrass Foundation.

Trophy and Shield

The event has attracted 21 bands from universities and conservatoires across the UK to take part in two sections of competition to see who lifts the UniBrass Trophy and the UniBrass Shield.

In addition to the two main competitions (below), the day will will be rounded off with a gala concert provided by Tredegar Band.

Earlier there will also be a free workshop with musicians from the Corps of Army Music. It will be open to brass and percussion players of all ages from Grade 3 upwards from the local community and will conclude with a performance in Pontio's Theatr Bryn Terfel during a break in the UniBrass Trophy competition.
