Tabby Kerwin will take over the adjudication role at the Diggle Whit Friday event

The Diggle Whit Friday committee has announced that Tabby Kerwin will take over the role as adjudicator for their famous contest this year.

It follows the untimely death her husband Simon who for many years was the highly respected adjudicator at the event, with the organisers delighted that Tabby will be able to employ her own years of experience as a conductor and top class cornet player in many leading bands to take on the role.

Respected

Tabby has been a respected performer, conductor, judge and journalist in the brass band media over the years. She has conducted at the National Finals, Yorkshire Area and a number of domestic contests and played with a numerous leading bands.

Huge pleasure

Commenting on the news, Tabby said: "Over the years it's always been a huge pleasure to get to know the hard-working team who organise the Diggle contest, and Simon and I spent a great deal of time working on judging systems which have been put in place there.

To take over from him is something I will cherish as it will be very close to my heart. The organising committee was clear that that recognised my own musical experience in asking me to take on the role. That was very humbling and I can't wait to spend the night listening to a line-up of great bands.

I was also informed that they believed I was the first female adjudicator in the 135 years of the event — so no pressure then!"
