The Lucerne Brass Ensemble, a septet made up of some of Europe's finest young professional brass players, is to launch its 'New Horizons' project which will see the group premiere works from leading composers on its forthcoming Swiss tour.

Comprising Niklaus Egg, Manuel Imof, Urs Itin, Florian Buchard and Matthias Keller on trumpet, Roger Müller on tenor horn, Irmgard Ripfel on euphonium and Amos Gfeller on tuba, the group has strong links to both the classical and brass banding worlds.

New works

The works have been commissioned from Daniel Schnyder ('Berlin-Paris'), Ludovic Neurohr ('Ex nihilo'), Sandor Torok ('Waltz on Mars') and Jean-François Michel ('Brass Septet'), as well as Oliver Waespi, who has written 'Blue Starters' — a trilogy of fanfares with a blues jazz feel.

The work in a full brass band version will also be featured in the Gala Concert of the 2019 European Brass Band Championships in Montreux in May.
