Newman to step down at Hathern

David Newman will step down after 40 years at the helm of Hathern Band.

David Newman is to step down as the Musical Director of the Hathern Band.

2019 will see David at the helm for the 40th year, and he says that he feels that "…it is time to pass over the baton", although he will remain with the band until a replacement is found.
Band Secretary Lesley Bentley told 4BR: "David's commitment to Hathern has been outstanding over a record 40 year period.

Fourth to Championship

He took on a struggling Fourth Section Band and has built, guided and directed us to the Championship Section. He was one of the people behind the setting up of our fantastic Youth and Training Bands to ensure the future of the organisation.

David's dedication and commitment has been absolutely outstanding and we can't thank him enough for everything he has done, and will continue to doHathern Band

Youth role

Lesley added: "David's dedication and commitment has been absolutely outstanding and we can't thank him enough for everything he has done, and will continue to do.

He will stay on as conductor of the Training and Youth Bands, something he loves to teach and mentor young talent, and bring yet more talented youngsters through to the Senior Band."
