The experienced Alan Widdop returns to Diggle after a 17 year break

The Diggle Band has secured the services of the experienced Alan Widdop to take them to the 2019 North West Area Championship.

It follows the resignation of Melvin Tay who has taken the decision to start dedicating his time towards the long-term development of his career. The postgraduate conducting student at the RNCM took over from Steven Walsh earlier this year just before the Area Contest.

Debut

Alan will make his debut with the band next month, marking a welcome return 17 years after he took them to victory at the 2001 Wilkinson Northern Open.

A spokesperson told 4BR: "The band has thoroughly enjoyed Melvin's inspirational approach and we're delighted that he has just been appointed Musical Director for the Merseyside based Opera Viva for their for their next production, Verdi's 'La Traviata'.

We are sad to see him go and like to wish him all the best in what will surely be a highly successful musical career."
