Bonanza boost for Broxburn & Livingston youngsters

Great music making, a mountain of pizza and a day enjoying the fun at the Fire Station gives the youngsters of Broxburn & Livingston Future Brass a great boost ahead of their Perth contest appearance.

Broxburn & Livingston Future Brass, one of Scotland's newest youth bands, has been involved in its first ever 'Bonanza Weekend' held in their local Fire Station.

Formed in May this year, the band has gone from strength to strength and is now looking forward to their first outing to Perth in November participating in the Scottish Brass Band Association's Youth Festival.

Bonanza weekend

The 'Bonanza Weekend' was intended to help the youngsters improve their playing and musical knowledge as they benefitted from the help of experienced tutors Ray Mundy, Theresa Wilkin and MD, Jim Bone.

The intensive tuition and rehearsals certainly worked as the players enjoyed the hard work, as well as plenty of fun and a mountain of pizza generously donated by a local Pizza Hut outlet in Bathgate.

All this and the players also learned about home fire safety and CPR, led by the fire crews at Bathgate Station, with a chance to use fire service equipment, soak each other with hoses and have a look around the specialist rescue boat.

Our tutors worked diligently and brought out the best in all of them and our thanks go to the fantastic team at the fire service for hosting the weekend. It was simply brilliant — from the pizza to the playing!Laura McMahon
