Tredegar kept on toes with Vizzutti link

Tredegar looks to provide their eclectic entertainment mix at home and abroad in November as they get set for more musical travels — including a link up with American trumpet star Allen Vizzutti.

Ian Porthouse will lead Tredegar to Newtown and Linz in November for two contrasting concert appearances

Tredegar Band hopes to further its domestic as well as European reputation next month as they prepare for two contrasting concert appearances in Wales and Austria.

The band makes a welcome return to Theatre Hafren in Newtown in Mid Wales on Sunday 4th November for an afternoon concert (3.00pm) of easy listening music, before heading to Austria for a gala concert performance at the famous Brucknerhaus as the finale to the Austrian National Championships (Sunday 18th November).

On toes

MD Ian Porthouse told 4BR that the contrast in repertoire will ensure that his band is kept on its toes — especially as he revealed that in Austria they will accompany David Childs in the premiere of Edward Gregson's new euphonium concerto, as well as American trumpet superstar Allen Vizzutti.

"These are the type of events that keep the band busy and extends our musical outlook,"he said.

"It's been a while since we performed in Newtown. The organisers have built up an excellent brass band audience over the years, who know what they like — so we hope our easy listening programme will provide them with plenty of enjoyment on a Sunday afternoon."

...it's going to be a real pleasure to perform with Allen Vizzutti on a trio of pieces — including a duet with our principal cornet Dewi GriffithsIan Porthouse

Childs and Vizzutti

He added: "The trip to Austria will be our second this year — and is very different — although it's also one we are thoroughly looking forward to as we link up with David Childs and Allen Vizzutti.

Edward Gregson will be joining us for the premiere of his work with David Childs as the soloist, whilst it's going to be a real pleasure to perform with Allen Vizzutti on a trio of pieces — including a duet with our principal cornet Dewi Griffiths. It promises to be a wonderful occasion at a magnificent venue."
