Peter Bates has told 4BR that he has been overwhelmed by messages from all over the banding world following the announcement of his retirement as North West Regional Secretary.
Thanks
A presentation was made to Peter at the recent AGM of the Association, but he has since received thanks and best wishes from all corners of the globe.
"I would like to thank those people who have sent such nice e-mails and correspondence since the announcement of my retirement. It's been humbling to know that my efforts have been appreciated by so many different people.
It was not an easy decision to make after being involved in brass banding for 45 years and with the Regional Championships for at least 30 years; seven of which as Chairman and eighteen as Regional Secretary.
I take the opportunity to thank all the many people in the banding community who I have had the privilege of knowing and working with over all the years, many of whom have become close friends. Particular thanks go to all the bands of the North West who have been so supportive of my efforts as Regional Secretary to give them the best possible contest at the Winter Gardens."
I wish all the bands the very best for the future and continued success to the Regional Committee. It's been an honour and a privilege to have served you allPeter Bates
Keep supporting
However, Peter was keen to reiterate the message which he has given loud and clear over the past few years in particular, that the contesting scene needs the support of both bands and individuals to carry one prospering.
"I will still be involved, but so must others. There is a great team on the Regional Committee, but help is always appreciated. I hope this help will be forthcoming to new Regional Secretary Richard Milton and his fantastic volunteers.
I wish all the bands the very best for the future and continued success to the Regional Committee. It's been an honour and a privilege to have served you all."
