Elland Silver Youth Band is gearing up to a 12 hour musical 'marathon' this weekend (Saturday 22nd) as they carry on their mammoth task of raising funds to meet the cost of representing England at the European Youth Championships in Montreux next year.

The defending European Development Section Champion will start playing at 9.00am, with the last note being blown at 9.00pm.

Indefatigable

The indefatigable players will embark on a day of rehearsals, sectionals, solos, duets and quartets, as well as providing tuition and support to some of the organisation's youngsters and newest members.

Support will also come from the members of all sections of the organisation, as well as an army of family members, friends and supporters who will come along to the band room on Dewsbury Road in Elland to have a listen and purchase home-made cakes and refreshments.

This is a huge undertaking for our youngsters, but also a great opportunity to show how much fun and enjoyment they have in doing something they loveMusical Director, Sam Harrison.

Huge undertaking

Musical Director Samantha Harrison told 4BR: "This is a huge undertaking for our youngsters, but also a great opportunity to show how much fun and enjoyment they have in doing something they love.

We hope supporters will pledge donations to help us make the trip to Montreux, which should be an unforgettable experience."

Massed band finale

Guest players can also do their bit at 7.00pm on the night by bringing along their instruments for a massed band finale.

Plans are also in place to live stream the event on social media via the bands Facebook page, so listeners will be able to send in requests for a favourite piece in return for a donation.
