Ahead of their Autumn travels to various contests across the country, Pennine Music has released three news works perfect for the concert season ahead.
Star Wars
The latest release is music from the pen of superstar composer John Williams.
'Rey's Theme' comes from the Star Wars films — 'The Force Awakens'.
Spanning a musical journey of over 40 years, his theme for the heroine of the new films, Rey, is just as powerful and emotional as any of the music composed for the saga, with the composer stating that the music, "…wasn't heroic in the sense of a hero, but instead was meant to convey an adventure that would resolve itself in triumph."
Now available for the brass band medium, this delicate, yet, powerful theme is a great addition to any concerts. It brings Star Wars right onto the concert stage!
Handel
Music from a very different era is showcased with Handel's 'Keyboard Suite in D Minor' (Sarabande), which has been such a popular feature across many mediums and is regularly featured on Classic FM's playlist.
The arrangement puts all the sections of the band under the spotlight with its beautiful balances and tonality and is a great piece to show off ensemble control and warmth.
Butterworth
An exciting new major work is also released with 'A Shropshire Lad' by George Butterworth.
This wonderful tone poem is based on his song cycle of the same name, itself based on the poetry of A.E. Housman and his personal reflections of the First World War.
This is the second arrangement of Butterworth's music by Duncan Wilson after 'The Banks of Green Willow' was recorded by both Black Dyke and Rothwell Temperance. The music is intense and poignant and an ideal work to feature as part of the centenary of the end of the War.
