Legacy
The work has now been downloaded over 400 times to be performed all around the world.

Tom Davoren's 'Legacy' soprano cornet solo which celebrates the 70th anniversary of the founding of the National Health Service in the UK has now been downloaded by over 400 bands and soloists in every corner of the banding globe.

It will now be heard performed in Australia, New Zealand and Japan as well as the USA and Canada, all over Europe and just about every part of the UK, with the composer telling 4BR that its inspiration seems to have hit not just a musical chord.

Positive comments

"I'm delighted with the response to 'Legacy' — especially I've received so many positive comments about the inspiration.

People have such a respect for the principles of the NHS and what it has done for their families and themselves, that the piece has become a very personal as well as communal celebration of Aneurin Bevan's amazing creation."

He added: "The number of PDF downloads is astonishing, and it's amazing to think that the work is being talked about and performed all over the world."

Memorable occasion

Recently the MP Nick Thomas-Symonds, who organised the special NHS Day at the Houses of Parliament alongside the Bevan Foundation, and which featured a performance of 'Legacy', presented the members of Tredegar Band with commemorative copies of Bevan's influential book, 'In Place of Fear' to mark the occasion.

Speaking to 4BR Editor Iwan Fox, he said; "That was a memorable occasion, and the performance of 'Legacy' that day touched everyone present.

I'm delighted that the piece and the celebration of the creation of the NHS will now be performed across the world — something I'm sure Aneurin Bevan would also have been delighted with."
