Brass band enthusiasts will be able to enjoy a wonderful couple of days packed with modern as well as historic attractions at the Dean Heritage Centre in Soudley in Gloucestershire on the weekend.
The event on Saturday 18th/ Sunday 19th August will feature Cinderford Band in concert (2.00pm each day) as well as supervised musical activities for children and a special brass band memorabilia show (both starting at 10.00am)
British Open trophy
And thanks to the generosity of the British Open Championship organisers, the iconic Gold Shield trophy that will be fought over by the world's finest bands at Symphony Hall in Birmingham in a few weeks time will be on display on the Sunday from 12 noon.
A spokesperson for the event told 4BR: "We are thrilled that the British Open Shield will be on display for people to see and find out more about from Iwan Fox, Editor of 4Barsrest.
People will be able to have their pictures taken with it — and we also want them to bring along their own brass band memorabilia and items to show and be assessed by expert archivists.
There is also something for everyone with information on how children can start playing brass band instruments and how families can get connected to local Forest of Dean bands and two concerts from Cinderford Band."
Own memorabilia
In response a British Open spokesperson told 4BR: "We are delighted to be able to support the event in this way and to enable so many people to find out more about such a magnificent trophy.
We hope they also bring along their own treasures — and you never know, there may be something that will be unearthed that will have a connection to the great history of the British Open contest itself."
