Nine bands to compete for Doctor Martin title

The nine bands that will compete for the big money prescription later this year will be revealed at the draw on August 22nd.

It has been announced that nine top section bands will compete at the Dr Martin Wainstone's Cup contest to be held on Sunday 9th September at the Princess Alexandra Auditorium in Yarm.

The event is now firmly established in the brass band contesting calendar, and offers a number of bands the opportunity to boost their coffers thanks to the generous prize fund on offer — the winner walking away with £4,000.

The draw will be made on August 22nd.

Fine line-up

Contest spokesperson Stephen Goodwin told 4BR: "We are delighted to have attracted a fine line-up of bands for the event once more. Full confirmation of the line-up plus the identity of the adjudicator will be released on the draw date."

Taking place the day after the British Open Championship in Birmingham, it also attracts a number of competitors from Symphony Hall. The defending champion is the Reg Vardy Band.

The first band will take to the stage at 11.00am
