SBBA continues to sow seeds for sustainable grass roots future

The Scottish Brass Band Association is helping to strengthen the grass roots future of banding with investment in youth.

Newmilns
Newmilns & Galston will be able to attract a new generation of players thanks to the support from SBBA

The Scottish Brass Band Association has continued its long term investment in youth development with Newmilns & Galston Band the latest member organisation to benefit from its 'Youth Band Start-Up' Scheme funded through its partnership with Creative Scotland's Youth Music Initiative, 'Access to Music Making' programme .

New players

The instruments will help the band attract new players to their recently launched Newmilns & Galston Brass Academy — and were delivered to band representative Phillippa MacDougall and the delighted senior players who will spearhead the scheme, by SBBA Education Officer John Boax (SBBA Education Officer).

John told 4BR; "SBBA was delighted to secure £90,000 of funding through the scheme earlier this year — one that recognised our proactive approach to encouraging a new generation of young brass band players throughout the country through six different projects."

It was great to be able to support yet another band taking the right steps to secure a long term, sustainable future for themselvesJohn Boax, SBBA , Education Officer

Sustainable future

He added: "It was great to be able to support yet another band taking the right steps to secure a long term, sustainable future for themselves — and we look forward to hearing the first notes being played from the Newmilns & Galston Brass Academy in the near future."
