Pennine Music, one of the UK's leading brass band publishers, has announced a new recording partnership with the current Yorkshire First Section Champion, Strata Brass.
It follows the launch of Pennine Music's new web-site earlier this month which will now feature recording samples for their catalogue titles provided by the band under MD, Jonathan Bates.
Great aid
Gavin Somerset of Pennine Music told 4BR: "We currently have digital audio samples of our entire catalogue available on the web-site, and this is a great aid to customers and MDs when browsing for new music.
However, there is nothing better than being able to hear the work played by a brass band as it gives extra insight into its structures and sounds — especially on new compositions."
Gavin added: "Jonny and I had a chat a while back about making this work for us both and I'm thrilled that as a result Strata Brass will become our official band for new recording samples."
Embracing new music
Following recent recording sessions, Jonathan told 4BR: "It's been a great experience for the band to work on a quick time-scale to produce a series of recordings of new music.
I feel that bands should be trying to find and promote new compositions and arrangements across all levels of banding, and Pennine Music is a company that really embraces that with a host of exciting writers already on their books."
4BR has been informed that the new recording samples will be uploaded and available to listen in the near future.

Partnership
Strata Brass Band Manager, Robert Hardy added: "'We're pleased to work alongside Gavin and Pennine Music. It's given us the opportunity to use new music arranged by new arrangers and we long forward to a long partnership together."
