There is new artistic leadership at the World Music Contest in Kerkrade as festival looks towards 2021.

Kerkrade
There are changes in the artistic structure of the WMC in time for 2021

4BR has been informed that the overall artistic management of the World Music Contest (WMC) in Kerkrade is to be taken over by conductor Björn Bus.

Henk Smit, currently a jury member, will take over the artistic direction of the marching and show contests as well as the concert contests for percussion ensembles. The appointments were unanimously confirmed by the WMC board of directors in the last week.

Harrie Reumkens, responsible for the artistic direction of the WMC since 1987, will remain as a part-time consultant.

Delighted

Chairman Max Kousen told 4BR: "We are delighted that we have secured the services of Henk Smit and Björn Bus.

Both have a clear vision and benefit from extensive specialist know-how. This will enable the WMC to enhance its position in the region and worldwide.

Furthermore, the field of international brass band music is currently very varied and specialised, so we are extremely fortunate that they can now carry out their work as a team."

The 19th edition of the WMC will take place in 2021.
