The world premieres are inspired in different ways by men of fearlessness

Black Dyke is preparing to give the world premiere of two new compositions this evening amid the magnificent surroundings of Lincoln Cathedral (Saturday 28th April — 7.30pm).

The works by William Himes and Paul Lovatt-Cooper will from the musical stanchions of an event that has been supported by the Arts Council England 'Grants for the Arts Programme' award secured by the Market Rasen Band.

Fearless

'Intrepid Overture' by William Himes (who will be in attendance having flown in from the USA) is inspired by a sense of adventure — one that the composer links to a vivid historical background of the city provided by Philip Pearson.

It celebrates a trio of local luminaries; William the Conqueror, William Byrd and Gilbert Vinter — all of whom in their respective worlds and ventures were fearless and pioneering.

Anarchy

Meanwhile, Paul Lovatt-Cooper's 'The Forces Unleashed' is inspired by the battle for Lincoln during the 'Anarchy' of 1141 — a bloody episode that centered on the capture of King Stephen by the forces of the Empress Matilda.

Following the premieres the works will subsequently be recorded by Market Rasen Band for a new CD release.

Also being performed will be Walton's majestic 'Crown Imperial', the overture 'Nabuco' and Eric Ball's classic 'Journey into Freedom'. 'Intrada: Ein Feste Berg' will open the second half before a number of the band's star soloists will be featured.

The evening will be rounded off with the incredible sounds of Wagner's 'Procession to the Minster'.

Majesty

Prof Childs told 4BR: "We have chosen a programme that reflects the majesty of the surroundings and the inspiration it has given countless thousands of people who have passed through the doors of the cathedral over the centuries, as well as music to get the feet tapping."
