The West Midlands Brass Band Association recently organised their annual Big Brass Band at Cradley Heath Salvation Army.
60 players from twenty different bands assembled under the direction of Dave Lea of Jaguar Land Rover Band. After an extensive afternoon rehearsal the band enjoyed a period of refreshments and socialising before performing an entertaining concert in the evening.
Varied programme
The varied programme included some old favourites such as 'Montreal Citadel' and the 'Finale' from 'Pineapple Poll', whilst young cornet soloist Luke Barker of Shipston Band was featured in, 'Don't Doubt Him Now'.
Principal cornet Karl Slater and four of his fellow players then joined Luke for a thrilling 'Trumpets Wild'. Vocalist Hilary Crowhurst added contrast to a very enjoyable concert.
