Elland get a great grant HIT

Elland Silver Band will be able to inspire more youngsters about percussion thanks to a grant award form Calderdale Council.

Percusison
Elland will be able to inspire yet more percussion players through their weekly classes

Elland Silver Band has received a Ward Forum Grant from Calderdale Council to be used to help the Yorkshire band fund tuition, equipment and music for their new 'HIT IT' beginner percussion class, led by Lauren Rosborough.

Weekly class

The weekly class will be held at the band's headquarters in Elland and will be aimed at children aged 7 to 12.

It is aimed at introducing children to a range of different percussion instruments — from drum kit to glockenspiel, and will focus on basic rhythms and different drum beats. Three taster sessions have already been a great success.

Percussion players are a key part of any band, and add so much colour and interest to performances, so providing opportunities for children to learn and have fun is essential to our organisation's developmentElland Silver

Key part

Secretary, Kathleen Harrison told 4BR: "We are delighted to welcome Lauren as our percussion tutor. She is a former member of our senior band and has recently graduated from the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama.

Percussion players are a key part of any band, and add so much colour and interest to performances, so providing opportunities for children to learn and have fun is essential to our organisation's development.

This grant will help to subsidise our costs, so we can make the class more affordable."
