Grimethorpe Colliery Band has announced the resignation of its resident Musical Director Brian Grant due to health issues.

Announcement

In an announcement on their website they stated: "Brian has worked with the band for something like ten years and a fantastic relationship has built up over that time, which comes across to audiences week-in, week-out as one of the band movement's most successful musical partnerships.

Brian was diagnosed several years ago with a lung condition which is starting to take its toll when he pushes himself too hard, and working full time and also conducting such a busy band like Grimethorpe is finally catching up with him. The only solution is rest!

Brian and the band want to stress that this parting of ways is purely and simply down to ill health and nothing more."

Return

They added: "The love of music and mutual respect that Brian and Grimethorpe Colliery Band have for each other is not harmed in any way. We all hope that with plenty of rest and management of his condition, we may see Brian back in front of the band sometime in the future."

Brian's final appearance with the band was at their recent appearance at Buxton Opera House.

Renton dep

Meanwhile, the band also announced that Frank Renton would step in to take the band at its forthcoming centenary celebration concerts. His BBC programme, 'Listen to the Band' will be doing a live recording from the event.
