4BR has been informed of the death of the well known bandsman James 'Jim' McKirdy. He died on 23rd September in Scarborough Hospital, aged 80.
Originally from Scotland, where he played for Govan Burgh Band, he undertook military service before becoming the respected principal cornet of Markham Main Colliery Band in the mid 1960' and a regular contributor to the British Bandsman magazine.
Well known
He was well known in the Yorkshire region, performing with bands at all levels and also conducting several along the way, before enjoying his later years playing euphonium with 'Simply Brass' based in Scarborough where he lived.
Funeral
His funeral will take place at 11.20am on Friday 6th October at Woodlands Crematorium, Scarborough.
A current member of Simply Brass, Kevin Moxon, will officiate at the funeral and his family openly invites all those who knew him to attend and pay their respects at the service.
