Northop thanks for year of success under Hughes

The newly crowned Welsh National Eisteddfod champion, Northop has thanked MD Paul Hughes for a year of musical success — topped off by that great going away present.

The Northop Band has publically thanked conductor Paul Hughes, after he led them to the Welsh National Eisteddfod title in Anglesey last weekend.

It proved to be a fitting way to close his year long tenure with the band before heading to Norway to start a new musical career, as Northop claimed the £750 top prize and the ornate Cwpan Catrawd Tiriogaethwyr Sir Y Flint trophy for the first time since 2007.

12 months work

Band spokesperson Andrea Egginton told 4BR: "Paul has worked with us for just over 12 months with our first collaboration at the 2016 Brighouse Hymn & March contest.

Since then we have also enjoyed performances at Liverpool Philharmonic Hall and Liverpool Cathedral and a number of other projects.

The victory at the National Eisteddfod meant a great deal to the band and was a wonderful conclusion to what has been an excellent partnership."
