Former BBC Proms Inspire Young Composers' Competition winner Thomas Brown has fought off tough musical competition at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland for his composition 'Fanfare & Themes' to be used for the medals ceremonies of the Total BWF Badminton World Championships in Glasgow later this month.
It was chosen by Badminton Scotland, RCS Head of Composition Gordon McPherson and Head of Brass John Logan, and was recorded in June by an orchestra from the RCS. It will be broadcast to a worldwide global audience estimated in the millions.
John Logan told 4BR: "The work for the championships will be instantly recognised."
Great opportunity
HRH Prince Edward Earl of Wessex, Patron of Badminton Scotland will also hear the composition played — although it won't be for the first time he will have heard Thomas' work.
He was in attendance as the patron of Chetham's School of Music when his 'Chetham's Fanfare: A Fanfare for Mass and Space' opened the new school building.
Thomas told 4BR: "It was great to have the opportunity to have something recorded by an orchestra. I will be there in August and I'm looking forward to hearing my piece on finals day."
