A little bit of Water Music to kick start Bolsover Summer School week

A relaxing trip down the beautiful Chesterfield Canal has given delegates on the Bolsover Summer School a lovely way to start a great week of tuition and music making.

Chesterfield Canal
Not a bad spot to enjoy a little bit of Bolsover Water Music...

Delegates on the Bolsover Summer School are already enjoying some of the great musical and non- musical attractions that have been provided for them this year.

Narrow boat

Having arrived ready for a week of intensive tuition and musical exploration under Mark Wilkinson, Brett Baker, David Thornton, David Hirst, Jonathon Bates, Simon Howell and Steve Jones, Monday has also seen them enjoy a two and half mile break on a narrow boat along the Chesterfield Canal from Shireoaks to Turnerwood and back with the chance to relax by taking in the beautiful scenery.

Organised by course regular Dave Morris, it has provided a great start a week that will also include a trip to the magnificent Newstead Abbey, where the Summer School band will give a two-hour concert.

Free Tutor concert

Meanwhile, Wednesday evening will feature a much anticipated free 'Tutor's Concert' (7.00pm) held at Shirebrook Village Hall, Park Road, Shirebrook, (NG20 8JQ) which is also open to the general public, with Thursday seeing the delegates provide their own concert at Renishaw Hall & Gardens, Renishaw Park, Chesterfield (S21 3WB) from 2.00pm to 4.00pm.

The course will culminate in a free concert on Friday (7.00pm) at the Heritage High School, in Clowne directed by Brett Baker and David Thornton, with guest Soloist Mark Wilkinson.

It is all about getting the balance just right. We want delegates from around the world to enjoy themselves fully as well as learn and improve as playersCourse spokesperson

Getting balance right

A Course spokesperson told 4BR: "It is all about getting the balance just right. We want delegates from around the world to enjoy themselves fully as well as learn and improve as players.

That's why we have an outstanding team of tutors backed by trips and activities so that they can relax and enjoy something a little different.

The canal trip certainly does that and is a great afternoon whilst the concerts take place in wonderful settings. All we have to do is to make sure the weather plays its part!"
