Belonging is the key to success for the potential recruits at the forthcoming Summer Academy at Kneller Hall

The Corps of Army Music is to once again host its highly popular Summer Academy in the grounds of Kneller Hall, home of military music between the 6th and 12th August.

The week long course is aimed at capable, motivated musicians that want to get a feel for what a career as a musician in the British Army is actually like, with over 100 budding recruits aged between 16 and 33 ready to find out more.

Showcase opportunity

A spokesperson told 4BR: "The Summer Academy is one of our showcase opportunities to give an invaluable insight into what the British Army has to offer someone who wishes to embark on a successful musical career.

These are motivated people who are willing to perform with professional musicians for a week, and be excited by the prospect of a new challenge."

The belonging key

During the course participants will be involved in concert band rehearsals, culminating with a final course performance on the prestigious Kneller Hall Bandstand, as well as take part in marching band rehearsals and witness a beating retreat display.

The spokesperson added: "This is the key — feeling that you belong and are being involved. They will also perform in smaller ensembles, learn military skills such as field craft, have an introduction to some low level physical training and enjoy plenty of masterclasses and social evenings."
