Wychavon set to attract bumper entry

This year's Wychavon Festival of Brass has plenty of attractions for competing bands — so get your entry in now...

Wychavon Festival of Brass
The Wychavon Festival of Brass is hoping to attract even more bands this year

The Wychavon Festival of Brass will once again take place takes place in the picturesque Worcesteshire town of Evesham on October 28th.

The organising team, led by Chairperson Val Trim, is bracing itself for another bumper entry of competitors — the result of many years of hard work in re-establishing the event as one of the most popular on the calendar.

Entries up

Val told 4BR: "Entries are up significantly once again, and we have still two months to go until close of entries. We will be running five sections and can confirm higher numbers across the board.

Interested bands at every level are advised to get their entries in quickly now. Leaving it until the last minute is only courting possible disappointment."

Closing date

The official date for the close of entries is September 5th, with the draw taking place only a few days later.

With excellent stewarding and organisation, a very generous prize fund (with the added attraction of a qualification link to the British Open Spring Festival and an increase in cash prizes), there is plenty to look forward to.

Entertainment

Val added: "We have added a special prize for visual entertainment to reward those bands that take that give that extra touch of polish to their presentations.

Meanwhile, there is also a new prize that reflects some of the playing specialism of the Wychavon team, as Val noted: "We have three baritone players sitting on our committee and we thought that for far too long the baritone section has been perceived as a 'Cinderella' of the band.

This year that will change that by awarding trophies in every section to the best baritone team on the day — a fitting acknowledgement of the often unsung heroes of a contest performance!"

Further trophies will be award to encourage participation of youngsters and junior bands are encouraged to get in touch with the organising team for more details to take part.
