Report & Results: 2017 Ohio Brass Arts Festival

Dublin Silver lead the entertainment stakes in central Ohio at a wonderful free event that featured great music and even an appearance by Zombie Elvis!

Dublin Silver claimed the winner's trophy after producing an excellent showcase set of their performance talents.

The 11th annual Ohio Brass Arts Festival was once again hosted by the Central Ohio Brass Band.

The event was held at Gahanna Creekside, a progressive mixed use development in the small state city of Gahanna, and brings together several of central Ohio's best brass bands each year.

The weather certainly played its part in a highly enjoyable day of free brass band entertainment — with the sun shining at a comfortable 21 C — perfect for both audience and performers.

Zombie Elvis

They were led by Scioto Valley Brass & Percussion, who opened the day with a witty non-competitive patriotic programme of American tributes, including an appearance by Zombie Elvis himself.

Meanwhile, Fillmore Philharmonic Brass, led by Stephen Lytle, followed with a trademark Henry Fillmore march before producing a thoroughly enjoyable set that included repertoire from the great pop group Earth, Wind, and Fire!

Star performer

Dublin Silver Band once again showed their quality under the baton of Tim Jameson, with soprano cornet David Lambermont the undoubted star performer of the day.

Their march, 'Keighley Moor' and slow melody, 'Wondrous Cross' took top marks from adjudicator, SSG John Powlison of the United States Army Band 'Pershing's Own'.

Brass Band of Columbus also gave a fine performance under conductor Brian Stevens, with the march 'Navigation Inn', Fantasy for Brass Band, and 'Images for Brass' amongst their selections to eventually take the runner-up slot.

Judge steps up

Hosts, Central Ohio Brass closed out the day with a non-competitive set that included quite a bit of movie and TV music, whilst SSG John Powlison laid down his pen to take to the soprano for a thrilling rendition of 'Flowerdale' from 'Hymn of the Highlands'.

The Fillmore Philharmonic Trombone and Tuba quartets performed between bands to entertain the crowd during stage changes.
