Following the departure of Kevin Crockford, Grimethorpe Colliery Band has announced that Martin Britt has taken over the role.
It was revealed that the highly respected Schilke Artist will play with the band at the British Open in September, but will still be free to play with his current band Filton Concert at the National Finals in October. He will make his debut in concert with the band next month in Kettering.
Delighted
A band spokesperson said: "We are delighted to announce the appointment of Martin Britt. Although living in Surrey he has agreed to play with the band in rehearsals and concerts up to and including the British Open in September."
They added: "It isn't realistic to view this as a permanent appointment, but Martin's availability was too tempting for us to pass up. He is a stunning musician and will certainly bring something special to our British Open appearance.
A full time replacement will be appointed later in the year, but no announcement can be made at this time."

Fits in
Meanwhile, Martin told 4BR. "I'm thrilled to be able to play with Grimethorpe. The rehearsal schedule and list of engagements fits in with a quiet playing period and also enables me to retain my registration with Filton and perform with them on their debut appearance at the National Finals in London.
I'm grateful to Tom Davoren and the band for allowing me to do this, and I'm really looking forward to playing with Grimethorpe on both the concert and contest stage. It really was a one off opportunity I couldn't miss out on."
