All Brass Radio: May
In 2004, Dr. Jim Fox, a former college professor and wind band director was living through the aftermath of a severe car accident. With a strong love of music, especially brass music, and time to work on projects as he recovered, he started a an internet radio station.
Today, All Brass Radio is now perhaps the most listened to internet brass band radio programme in the world.
Voting system
Thousands of listeners tune in each week to hear the finest brass bands and soloists in the world — thanks to a truly unique interactive approach.
First and foremost is the 'voting' system. Listeners can, via the front page or using iOS/Android Apps, vote on each tune as it plays. One star suggests that the track is poor and should be voted off the radio station's playlist, whilst five stars suggesting it is one of the best!
With long term listeners making informed choices and not abusing the system, it also means that great tracks are repeated whilst, through Jim's hard work, new tracks are added to give listeners more choice.
There are no 'in stream' advertisements and the station meets its financial needs via generous donors. Dr. Jim Fox runs the station from a small studio in his house in the US and the radio station is hosted in the UK.
Royalty payments
All Brass Radio also ensures that royalties are paid every year to ASCAP (in the United States). Stations come and go and after 12 years All Brass Radio is still playing the best brass band tunes legally.
All Brass Radio is happy to listen to suggestions for CDs and tracks to add to the playlist and will help advertise a band's new CD for the simple donation of the CD to the station.
