It has been announced that the tickets for this year's British Open Championship will go on sale from Birmingham's Symphony Hall Box Office on Friday 19th May.
165th event will take place on Saturday 9th September, where the competing bands will perform Thierry Deleruyelle's composition, 'Fraternity'. The contest, which once again is sponsored by Besson, will commence at 10.30am.
Acclaimed work
Written for the 2016 European Brass Band Championships, 'Fraternity' has been met with widespread popular and critical acclaim, and is inspired by the tragic events of a mining disaster near Lille in Northern France in 1906, which resulted in the death of 1,099 miners, including a number of children.
Deleruyelle's lyrical work has subsequently been heard on a number of major contesting platforms — including this year's European Championship in Oostende, where it was performed by eventual winner Eikanger Bjorsvik Musikklag.
Eikanger invite
As a result of that victory (and being the highest placed European band at the event), the Norwegian band will now be invited to compete in the 2018 British Open — following in the footsteps of Brass Band Willebroek in 2016 and this year Swiss National champion Valaisia.
With demand for tickets seeing the past three years being sold out, people are requested to book their tickets from 19th May onwards to avoid disappointment.
