Brass Bands England has confirmed that award winning composer Lucy Pankhurst has joined the Music Panel for the National Youth Brass Band Championships of Great Britain.
Lucy takes over from Alun F Williams who has stepped down, and will join a team of Philip Harper, Ian Porthouse and Mark Bousie in selecting works for the event. BBE has recently worked with Lucy on the critically acclaimed 'Brass ReMade' project.
Delighted
A spokesperson told 4BR: "We are delighted to be able to welcome Lucy to the panel — one which has selected a number of outstanding works for the event including this year's selections of 'Penlee' by Simon Dobson and 'Smoke Sketches' by Daniel Hall.
Panel member Ian Porthouse told 4BR: "It's great to have Lucy join us. Her perspectives and insight will be invaluable as we continue to seek out works that challenge and inspire young players."
Graduating with an honours degree in performance from the RNCM in 2004, Lucy them went on to gain her MMus in composition working alongside Head of Composition, Adam Gorb. She then returned to the college in 2012 as a PhD researcher, focussing on contemporary brass composition techniques, including the application of electronics.
