4BR has been informed that Paul Holland has resigned from his role as Musical Director of Flowers Band.
Decision
Speaking to 4BR he said: "After exactly eight years of great music making I have taken the decision to resign.
When I joined in April 2009 I wanted to put the Flowers name on the brass band map, capable of competing with the very best in the world and to raise the standard of playing above anything they had achieved in the past.
Looking back I'm extremely proud of what we did together; with contest victories at the Grand Shield, two French Open titles, a hat-trick of Yeovil wins, five victories at the Butlins Mineworkers Championships and six Area titles.
In addition the band gained its highest ever placing at Brass in Concert, the National Championships and British Open."
World class hallmark
He added: "On the concert stage there have also been many unforgettable moments with new music commissions and world class soloists being a hallmark of so many of our performances. In short, every engagement has been a pleasure to conduct."
Could not agree
Paul stated that his last engagement with the band will be at Pershore Abbey later this month and that his decision had come after he and the band could not agree on several matters concerning the band's future progress.
"Like all organisations Flowers have gone through many cycles of change over the past eight years, whilst personal changes and my own ambitions and expectations have also changed from year to year.
I'm sorry to say that the committee and I cannot agree on several matters moving forward and I have therefore tendered my resignation. My last engagement will be a concert in Pershore Abbey on 22nd April organised by the Rotary Club of Worcester and Wychavon."
I would like to offer my sincere and heartfelt thanks to all the members of the band, past and present, for their hard work, commitment, friendship and music makingPaul Holland
Thanks
Paul concluded: "I would like to offer my sincere and heartfelt thanks to all the members of the band, past and present, for their hard work, commitment, friendship and music making.
I leave with life-long memories of great banding and an immeasurable sense of pride."
