The Ratby Co-operative 'Mid' Band has announced the appointment of Geoff Wood as their new conductor.

No stranger to the organisation, Geoff takes over from Geoff Newman, who had conducted the 'Middle' band for 20 years.

Former player

As a former player with the 'Mid' Band, Geoff went on to become principal cornet of the senior Ratby Co-operative Band, as well as enjoying stints developing the Youth/Junior bands. His playing career includes spells at Desford Colliery, Hathern and Ibstock Brick Brass.

Debut

Geoff's debut came at the recent Midlands Regional Championships, where he led them to a very creditable 4th place in a highly competitive Fourth Section.

Speaking of the appointment, Band Chairman Steve Plant told 4BR: "We are really pleased to welcome Geoff into his new role and look forward to working together alongside Ratby's team of conductors, trainers and musical directors."

July 28 • Tintwistle Band are looking for a 2nd horn player to complete our horn section. We rehearse Monday and Thursday 8-10pm at our own bandroom on Old Road in Tintwistle, and perform a variety of concerts all year round.
