With the Regional Championships now starting to become a fading memory, Pennine Music has some superb new releases that come at the perfect time to get bands in just the right shape for the forthcoming concert season.
Hollings and Fisher
New releases include works by the Carlton Main Frickley Colliery duo, Ben Hollings and Sam Fisher.
Ben is the band's 'Composer in Residence' and has an impressive portfolio of compositions to his name, whilst Sam plays cornet with the band and is enjoying a highly successful period as MD with the Old Silkstone Band.
New releases
Ben's fantastic new concert opener is entitled 'Celebration'. The work can begin any programme with its exciting fanfare and hymn style structure.
After the bold fanfare opening, the music settles into a setting of the hymn, 'Eventide', which features a flugel solo, before a reprise of the opening fanfare material is combined with the hymn tune and the heroic theme to bring the piece to an exciting finale.
New material
The Brass in Concert Championship is a showcase for great new material and last year, Carlton Main Frickley set their programme around the Great Fire of London.
'Resurgence' by Sam Fisher was used as the exciting finale and is written in three sections. It graphically depicts London in its post-fire state and is a great addition for a band looking to showcase something different.
A touch of Adele
For those soloists out there, one of Adele's greatest hits, 'Make You Feel My Love' has been beautifully arranged by Gavin Somerset as a tenor horn solo.
This cracking new take of the melodic song allows the soloist the freedom to express themselves, aided by careful scoring beneath in this delicate solo line. A Bb soloist part is also included with the publication as an option.
