97th Spring Festival runners and riders announced

The 60 bands all looking to eventually head to the British Open at Symphony Hall will line-up in Blackpool in May.

  60 bands will test their mettle to claim the silverware at the Spring Festival this year.

The organisers of the 97th British Open Spring Festival have announced further details for the Grand Shield, Senior Cup and Senior Trophy contests which will take place at Blackpool's Winter Gardens on Saturday 13th May.

Grand Shield

The Grand Shield will get under way in the Opera House at 10.00am, with 20 rivals looking to claim the two qualification places that will secure their place at the British Open Championships at Symphony Hall on September 9th. The bands will perform 'Reflections on Swan Lake' by Stephen Roberts.

Senior Cup

Meanwhile, the Senior Cup will start in the Pavilion Theatre at 10.30am, where the 20 bands will perform 'Fragile Oasis' by Dr Peter Meechan. There are four qualification places on offer to the Grand Shield.

Senior Trophy

The Senior Trophy will kick off in the Spanish Hall at 11.15am where the 20 bands will perform Gilbert Vinter's classic 'Salute to Youth'. There are four qualification places on offer to the Senior Cup.

The adjudicating team who will make the all important decisions comprises John Doyle, Paul Holland, Thomas Hutchinson, Ian Porthouse, Allan Ramsay and Steve Sykes. The pairings for each section will be announced on the day.

Tickets will be available on the day from the Box Office with adults £12.00 and concessions £7.00.

November 25 • 2nd or 3rd cornet required to boost our back row. We are a non contesting band, but carry out numerous events across North Yorkshire. We will be doing a joint concert with Carlton Main next year.
