The newly crowned West of England Regional Champion Woodfalls has enjoyed an extra boost to their musical fortunes following their victory in Torquay last weekend, with the news that Dr Robert Childs has signed a three-year agreement to become their Musical Director.
It will see Dr Childs conduct the Wiltshire band at contests and concerts across the UK, as well as develop recording opportunities, further concerts, educational projects and tours abroad. It further cements a musical relationship that began in 2012 and culminated in victory on 'Pageantry' — their first Area title success since 2011.
Delighted
Woodfalls Chairman Paul Street told 4BR: "We are delighted that Dr Childs will work alongside our experienced Resident Conductor Phil Randall.
Our musical relationship with him has led us into the most rewarding period of success since our formation in 1874. We are keen to develop further, and especially to utilise the local brass and percussion playing talent around us and to increase our educational and concert work through a number of exciting projects now in the pipeline."

Fantastic
Paul added: "It's fantastic that the new partnership has seen victory at the West of England Area Championship, and we are now determined to get back into the British Open at the Grand Shield in May."
Higher levels
Meanwhile, Dr Robert Childs added: "I'm delighted to formalise my role at Woodfalls Band and look forward to continue developing the camaraderie and friendship we have and raise the musical standards to even higher levels."
