Shirebrook continues council help

Shirebrook Town Council will continue to support the 'Brass in the Park', 'Open Brass Band Entertainment Contest' and the Bolsover Brass Summer School.

Summer School
Shirebrook Town Council will continue to support three important brass band events.

Following the recent announcement made on 4BR that Shirebrook Town Council will continue to support its popular 'Brass in the Park' and 'Open Brass Band Entertainment Contest' they have also confirmed that that they will also assist with the running of the Bolsover Brass Summer School organised and managed by Carole Hirst.

Further develop

Following Carole's early retirement from Bolsover District Council, she was keen to ensure the Bolsover Brass Summer School continued to develop and thrive, and with this in mind she approached Shirebrook Town Council for support.

A spokesperson told 4BR: "Shirebrook Town Council are excited to be assisting with the promotion and administration of this long-standing event within the District — one that has worldwide scope and interest."

Brass in the Park

It was also confirmed that the 'Shirebrook Brass in the Park' series of concerts will include the following line-up of bands.

25th June: Shirebrook Miners Welfare
23rd July: Lincolnshire Fire & Rescue Concert Band
6th August: Pleasley Colliery Welfare
20th August: Ireland Colliery Chesterfield
3rd September: Enderby

Enderby will perform the final slot on Sunday 3rd September as the current Shirebrook Brass Band Open Entertainment Contest champion — having won the event in 2015 and again 2016.

Shirebrook Brass Band Open Entertainment Contest

Sunday 9th July will be the third annual Shirebrook Brass Band Open Entertainment Contest.

Held at Shirebrook Leisure Centre, Park Road, Shirebrook, Derbyshire (NG20 8JQ), it is open to any band to enter, contesting or non-contesting. The entry fee is £50 (non-refundable).

The festival offers a very generous prize fund with the winners taking home £750, and podium finishers, £400 and £200 respectively. There are also £200 awards for the most entertaining Second, Third and Fourth Section graded bands.
