There has been a change in the percussion team at Bjørsvik Brass — the remarkable Elite Division Norwegian band made up mainly of former Eikanger Bjorsvik players from the Hordaland area near Bergen.
Family and work commitments have meant that Thomas Frøyen, who has been the section leader almost since the band was formed in 2008, is stepping down from his principal percussionist role, although he will continue as a regular 'dep'.
Demands
However, his place is being taken by Espen Haukas (back, second from right), who for many years was the principal percussionist with Manger Musikklag, but who originally played with Eikanger.
He told 4BR: "I also had to step down from the demands of top-flight banding as Principal Percussionist with Manger in 2015, so I'm delighted to be able to return with my old friends from my time in Eikanger-Bjørsvik way back in 2002!"
I'm really looking forward to performing with these extraordinary players, as it offers me the chance to carry on enjoying playing in a brass band whilst developing my professional careerEspen Haukas
Looking forward
