Last weekend's Yorkshire Regional Championship once again proved to have worldwide appeal, with the contest at Huddersfield Town Hall attracting listeners from all corners of the globe.
This year the familiar Yorkshire accents were sprinkled not only with timbres from the usual banding outposts of the UK, but also from as far afield as Switzerland and Japan. In addition, the local Huddersfield Daily Examiner sent a reporter to the event, with their report featured on the newspaper's website.
Compliments
The new venue also proved to be popular with the competitors, with Regional Secretary Peggy Tomlinson telling 4BR that her organising team had received numerous compliments from bands who appreciated the excellent facilities at the Town Hall.
"We were delighted at how things went,"Peggy said. "It was our first time the contest has been held at Huddersfield for many years and it was hugely successful. The staff were most helpful and the venue worked really well for us and the competing bands."
Have your say
Although the audience reaction over the two days to speeches that praised the venue, also backed up the reports of satisfaction, Peggy revealed that no decision had yet to be made to whether or not the contest would return next year.
"We won't make any decision just yet as there are a number of other considerations to be taken into account.
However, I would urge all bands to send a representative to our open Annual General Meeting on Sunday April 9th, which will be held at the Holiday Inn off Junction 40 of the M1 motorway (Queen's Drive, Ossett, West Yorkshire WF5 9BE) starting at 11.00am.
There will be an opportunity there to discuss the recent Championships and for representatives to put forward their views."
