Rogerstone revival enjoys upbeat opening

33 players returned to the banding fold in Rogerstone for a great community start under Robert Childs and new MD, Andrew Wareham.

Rogerstone Band
Dr Robert Childs led the revival of the Rogerstone Community Band which attracted a great turnout

There has been a wonderful player response to the first Rogerstone Community Band rehearsal under the baton of Dr. Robert Childs.

33 players turned up on the night — many dusting off instruments for the first time in a number of years, and the response was such that the band was able to announce the appointment of a new MD in Andrew Wareham.

Recognition

Andy was both taught and performed with Robert Childs, and has since gone on to enjoy a highly successful musical career performing at events such as the Montreux Jazz Festival and receiving recognition from the greats of the jazz world such as Wynton Marsalis for his playing.

Recently he has been featured regularly on BBC Radio as part of rock band 'Johnny Cage and the Voodoo Groove' whilst his own compositions have won the 'Vivendi Composition Award' and 'Best Student Composition' at the 2016 UniBrass Championships.

Pride

The Cardiff University Bachelor of Music graduate now hopes to build in the initial success of the first rehearsal and once again provide the community of Rogerstone with a band that they can be proud of.
