The death has been reported of the highly respected musician and teacher John Knight. He passed away on 18th January. He was aged 94.

John was appointed Head of Brass Band Music for the progressive Hampshire Education Authority and spearheaded the formation of the very successful Mid-Hants Schools Band in 1965, which in 1968 was crowned Champion Youth Band of Great Britain.

Senior success

In 1972 they became West of England Third Section and then Second Section Champions in consecutive years. Renamed Hampshire Youth Concert Band in 1973 and gaining promotion to the Championship Section in 1974, the youth band finished a very credible fourth at the West of England Regional Championships.

Tribute

On Sunday 2nd April in Winchester Guildhall (2.30pm) a 'Tribute and Celebration' event has been arranged to celebrate John's life, and it is hoped that a band will be formed of former Hampshire Youth Concert Band members to provide appropriate music for this occasion.

Longridge Band

July 21 • Due to ill health, Longridge Band invite applications for a SOLO HORN. We are a friendly, committed band, who enjoy a good balance of concerts and contests throughout the year. We rehearse 10 minutes from Jct 31A of the M6, on Wednesday and Friday evening
