The 2017 UniBrass Championships will be held in Harrogate this weekend.
And with both the UniBrass Shield and Trophy events taking place on Saturday (February 19th) there is sure to be a brilliant competitive atmosphere at the North Yorkshire spa town's International Conference Centre.
The players in each of the 19 competing bands are putting their academic studies on hold for the moment and concentrating their minds on the musical tests ahead as they hope to catch the ears of the judges with their innovative performances.
Streamed live
University of Oxford Brass Band will kick off proceedings in the UniBrass Shield at 11.45am, with the UniBrass Trophy commencing at 12.15pm with reigning champions, University of Manchester.
The whole event will be streamed online at: http://unib.co.uk/live
Out for force
The seventh annual contest is bringing brass banding back to the Harrogate International Centre, and the local brass banding community has been out in force.
Tewit and Harrogate Bands have been working with the contest organising team over the past weeks, ensuring the local community are well aware that the event is taking place, with Tewit Youth Band giving a performance as part of the results ceremony.
With Katrina Marzella enjoying the delights of motherhood, Leigh Baker, MD of Hepworth Band, has kindly agreed to step in for her, joining Mark Wilkinson in adjudicating in the UniBrass Shield.
