The Berne University of the Arts (HKB) in Switzerland has announced that it is to run a new Masters programme in Composition for Symphonic Wind Orchestra and Brass Band.
Part of its renowned Composition and Theory Department, it will start later this year and will be led by the acclaimed composer Oliver Waespi.
European-wide development
The University already offers a series of high quality Masters Curriculums, including Contemporary Composition, Composition and Arrangement in Jazz and Theatre Musical.
The new programme will complete these academic areas and reflects the importance of the development of European-wide wind and brass music making during the last couple of years.
Acclaimed body of work
A spokesperson told 4BR: "Oliver Waespi's acclaimed body of work will enable him to share his experience in several fields of music in order to embed the new programme in a wider aesthetic context."
It was announced that the new programme will be taught over four semesters and requires a total of 120 ECTS-Credits (90 ECTS-Credits if passed as a second Master).

Deadline
Students will benefit from a vast array of courses covering much of contemporary and traditional composition techniques and aesthetics.
The main subject will be taught in German, French or English, according to the preferences of the students.
