Symphonic Brass of London continues to inspire players of all ages

Members of the Symphonic Brass of London Big Band recently joined forces with students from the Claire House Primary School and the BYCB Festival Band at the Langley Centre for the Performing Arts for the grand finale of their 'Band on the Run' project.

The massed groups performed a varied programme of music, rehearsed and developed over a 10 week period to a packed audience of parents and invited guests, that included the Mayor of Bromley, the CEO of Mayor's Music Fund, and representatives of Arts Council England and Warwick Music Group.

Feedback

Following the concert students were consulted about the impact of the project with 81% indicating that they would now like to continue to play a musical instrument. Feedback from respected observers also confirmed the fantastic impact that the project had made.

Annie Cartwright, Consultant for the Mayor's Music Fund Projects and Scholarships 2016/17 stated: "It's been such successful project. I can only say that it's been a real pleasure for me, learning about and following it."

Huge success

Meanwhile, Chrissy Kinsella, CEO of Mayor's Music Fund added: "It was a huge success. It just goes to show what can be achieved with excellent teaching and high aspiration!"

As part of its new Education Department, Symphonic Brass of London now plans to further develop meaningful partnerships across the country, with Birmingham Conservatoire the latest to become part of their Learning & Participation programme.

Initiatives

SBOL Head of Education Martin Heartfield told 4BR: "We are delighted to be working in partnership with Birmingham Conservatoire, developing a range of initiatives as part of our educational projects and workshop activities.

Working alongside their staff, students and organising events in their fantastic new facilities will add tremendous value to the projects we will be running with several music hubs in the future."
