The Golborne Band has announced the appointment of Mark Harrison as its new Musical Director following the recent departure of Trevor Halliwell.
The freelance musician and trumpeter accepted the invitation to conduct the North West outfit based between Wigan and Warrington. After a busy Christmas programme Mark will start preparing the band as they look forward to the Second Section Regional contest in Blackpool.
Acclaimed
Mark has forged a critically acclaimed career both in Britain and Norway — from top flight bands such as Fairey, Leyland and Mount Charles as well as the exciting Norwegian Brass ensemble Brasskompaniet.
In addition Mark is also the Musical Director of the Kearsley Youth Band, a post he will continue with, alongside his other commitments.

Enjoyed
He told 4BR: "When I was approached about taking the band, initially I was hesitant because I'm already so busy. However, after taking a rehearsal I thoroughly enjoyed their company and musicianship, and am really pleased to be taking them to the Area contest as MD.
With a piece like 'Rhapsody in Brass', and my upbringing in bands, I feel like I have a lot to give and hope everyone enjoys it! I know how much I loved playing in bands growing up, so getting the chance to give something back is always a great treat."
The band also took the opportunity of thanking Trevor Halliwell for his hard work and dedication and wished him well in the future.
