Taylor made for Brass for Africa Fellowship role

Trombonist, teacher and journalist Dr. Taylor Hughey has been appointed to the Brass for Africa Brass Development Fellowship role — to start work in Uganda in January.

The Brass for Africa Charity has announced the identity of the person who will fill their ground breaking Brass Development Fellowship position in association with their Patron and trumpet virtuoso Alison Balsom.

The charity trains and employs young African teachers, many of whom are graduates of its programmes. To continue this development and reach out further to more young people, Brass for Africa launched the Brass Development Fellowship, resulting in an extensive world wide selection procedure that will now see Dr. Taylor Hughey take up her post in Kampala, Uganda in late January 2017.

Taylor is a Courtois performance artist with the Buffet Crampon Group, and takes on the role from her current music department faculty position in Heze, China. Prior to this she was a Studio Trombone Instructor at the Coalburn School at the School of Performing Arts in Los Angeles, California.

Journalist

Aside from teaching and performing, Taylor is also the News Coordinator for the International Trombone Association, where she maintains the news section on the ITA website and writes for the quarterly journal, 'Trombone'.

It is envisaged that Taylor will use her journalistic skills to file a weekly blog from Kampala, with details of how you can follow her journey with Brass for Africa published soon.

Life changing

Brass for Africa is a non-profit organisation that uses music to empower and improve the lives of extremely disadvantaged young people in Uganda and Liberia.

Working with local organisations, Brass for Africa provides life-changing brass music education, performance opportunities, welfare support and life skills training to over 600 young people each week from orphanages, street children projects, impoverished communities and rehabilitation centres.

November 4 • We are a busy and very friendly 2nd section band with 5 current vacancies - FRONT ROW CORNET – BACK ROW CORNET- EUPHONIUM - Bb BASS - PERCUSSION. We rehearse on Tuesdays & Thursdays near our lovely home town, just a short drive from M5, J14.
