The Vale of Glamorgan Band has announced the appointment of Geraint Barnes as their new principal cornet.

Geraint is a trumpet and cornet player from Nelson near Caerphilly who has played for many bands including the likes of Tredegar Youth, Cwmaman and Tongwynlais Temperance.

After enjoying his banding over many years Geraint started on a professional career with his group 'The Vintage Experience Company' before taking the decision to return with Vale of Glamorgan.

I'm looking forward to leading the band at the Welsh Area contest next year and I want to thank Dave for this opportunityGeraint Barnes

Huge task

He told 4BR: "I have the huge task now as principal cornet, but it's one I'm very excited about. The MD Dave Short is a true professional to work alongside and the band is great fun and has a bright future ahead of it.

I'm looking forward to leading the band at the Welsh Area contest next year and I want to thank Dave for this opportunity."
