Youth and Open titles up for grabs in Perth

There will be plenty of great brass band contest action to enjoy in Perth this weekend with the Scottish Youth and Scottish Open Championships taking place.

  There is plenty of great contest action on show in Perth this weekend

Although European eyes and ears will be geared towards the National Championship action taking place in Switzerland and Belgium this weekend, there is also a very tasty couple of days of competition to enjoy in Scotland.

The Scottish Youth Championships and the Scottish Open Championship will take place at Perth Concert Hall, and there is sure to be plenty of great competitive music making to enjoy.

Youth kick-off

Saturday will kick off with the Preparatory and Novice Sections of the Youth Championships starting at 9.00am, followed by the cross border senior battle for the Scottish Open Championship which starts at 1.30pm.

Sunday sees the youth return with the Development, Percussion, Senior and Premier titles up for grabs.

All this and you can also enjoy a number of free workshops and masterclass sessions on conducting and performing as well as Chris Fower on hand to show you how to enjoy playing the amazing pBone trombone.

February 5 • Wantage Band (championship section) has a vacancy for TOP 2ND CORNET. This would suit a player with experience in a championship/first section band. Rehearsals take place every Sun 7:30pm and Wed 8pm in Wantage with highly experienced MD Chris King.


Haverhill Silver Band

February 4 • Haverhill Silver Band (champ section) seeks a BACK ROW CORNET. This is a superb opportunity to join East Anglia's premier brass band for the area contest, the Senior Cup, Whit Friday and beyond. Applications to join after the area contest also considered.


Bilton Silver Rugby Band

February 1 • Due to some seating changes, Bilton Silver (Rugby) requires a percussionist to join our Championship Section band for the Midlands Regional contest. Rehearsals are held on Monday and Friday at 7-45pm in our own purpose built bandroom.
