Logan's run reaches 50

The popular north west bandsman Bernie Logan has just had 50 years of dedicated service to the brass band movement recognised and appreciated.

Bernie Logan
50 years of dedicated service to the banding movement was marked in the presentation.

Well known player and band administrator Bernard Logan was recently presented with a well deserved 'Long Service' Diploma of Honour in recognition of 50 years of dedication to the brass band movement.

Banding career

The presentation was made by his great friend Alan Lawton (right) who Bernie has known throughout his banding career — from its humble beginnings as a Bb tuba player in his local school band right through to some glorious years at the very highest level as a leading baritone player with the likes of Leyland Vehicles, CWS Manchester, Besses, Fairey and Foden's.

During his career he was conducted by all the 'greats' — from Trevor Walmsley and Derek Garside, to Major Peter Parkes, Richard Evans, Jim Watson, Roy Newsome and Howard Snell.

Three times

His professional working life included owning and running a group of companies, although it did not stop him being involved with Fairey Band on three separate occasion as well as being a respected Band Manager at Yorkshire Imps. More latterly he has enjoyed his playing with Diggle Band.
